Since this is a woodworking site now, I thought I would share some lumber repurposing I did over the weekend. I built this bar out of wood I had used to make a bed plus some plywood I had left over from making  shelves in our new place .

Here’s a picture of it as a bed:

It had to be dissembled to get out of our old apartment anyway. The slats (which is now the bar top) are made of cedar. The bed held up well for over 4 years and cost less than $50 to build. Now it will live on as a basement bar.

Damn that was one sturdy looking bed! I love the bar. Just needs some tiki gods.

Do you have to powerwash the bed when you clean it?

I think wood working can be meditative and rewarding, also the tools and materials are inexpensive.

I am hoping to get a little woodworking done on my day off tomorrow, my depression has been crushing me so I am hoping it is manageable tomorrow.

This massively depends on what you’re doing. Some woodworking tools are most certainly not in the inexpensive category.

It’s the best stress relief. It more forgiving than working with car parts and much easier to make your own custom creation. Having a scrap lumber pile and a few boxes of screws/nails can eat up a lot of anxious hours. The smell of sawdust is therapeutic .

It was super heavy because it’s mostly landscape timbers. They’re only $4 for an 8' piece so it’s easy to build a lot with them.

Yeah they are nice. I’ve used them to build a handrail for a bridge I helped build. Skookum as frig.
